Understanding God’s Plan in Tough Times

All of our lives (at least all of mine), we hear that everything happens for a reason. We hear that God has a plan and that everything is working out for our good.

Well, during a particularly hard and trying time that can be really difficult to believe, or at least, hard to put in your mind above your pain at the moment. And it seems to (for me at least) not penetrate at all when you are going through and someone is saying this as a way to comfort you.

Sometimes my heart was hurting so bad that at that moment, I couldn’t understand how this was a part of God’s plan and how this was working out for my good. I couldn’t see it at all. And people telling me that God has a plan and that it was working out for my good was doing nothing to comfort me. But after I had calmed down, I was able to then understand that yes, God does have a plan and it is all working out but it wasn’t always easy to think this way.

If I’m being truly honest, there are still some things that I don’t understand, still some things that I am waiting to see why God had them to work out the way they did and how it all is working out for my good.

But while waiting I have faith that He will reveal it when it is time.

We may not understand everything that God is doing but trust and believe that he has a plan.

Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.”

And Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, an before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Now he may not have appointed all of us to be a prophet to the nations but believe that before he formed us in the womb, he knew us and he had a plan.

He knows everything that we will go through, every trial, tribulation, every heartbreak and pain and while going through it we may not understand but once he helps us to make it though, sometimes we are able to look back and say ah..ok..I see and understand now. This is why God didn’t give me what I asked for or this is why God made me wait. And it’s always better than what we had planed. Now it does not always happen quickly, like I said earlier, there are still things that I am waiting to see how God will work to out. How it’s all going to work together for my good and God’s plan.

Proverbs 3:5-6 say “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight and understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth.”

When you stop worrying about it and learn to just trust God and His plan, eventually you will see it all start to come together.

God has so much more knowledge than we have so I wouldn’t even dream of trying to understand why He does what He does or what He is thinking. I just have to hold on to my faith and trust that God has a plan and he’s working it all out for my good. Never has He ever led me down the wrong path or left me. Even when things don’t work out I still believe that He is behind the scenes cooking up something. And I choose to focus on that instead of what went wrong. I choose to focus on the ok, this is not what God wanted for me so I can’t wait to see what it is that He has planed and it’s exciting!

Have you ever been through something and couldn’t understand why it was happening and then later on you were able to understand how God worked out your situation and why? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
